Jargon Wednesday! - Cookie

Every Wednesday we are going to put up a new Computer term that everyone might not understand, this is our first Wednesday so here it goes!

HTTP cookies are used by Web servers to differentiate users and to maintain data related to the user during navigation, possibly across multiple visits. HTTP cookies were introduced to provide a way to implement a "shopping cart" (or "shopping basket"), a virtual device into which the user can "place" items to purchase, so that users can navigate a site where items are shown, adding or removing items from the shopping basket at any time.

Make your computer Green

Everything is getting greener: houses, towns, lawnmowers, cars, and even those HUGE trucks!

Why not your computer?

Here are a few ways to minimalize your Carbon Footprint and maybe even save you a little bit of $$$.

1. Hibernate your PC (or mac). By changing the power settings on your computer or laptop you can save quite a bit of energy, it allows you to set it on a timer so if you want it to turn off when you step away for coffee (5 min), or to shut off when you go away for lunch (30 min), there is a setting for you!

2. Turn stuff off!!! If you are leaving work for the night, or leaving your computer to go to bed you might want to keep your computer running (download the rest of that file or less time to get back on the next morning), but would it hurt to turn off the monitor, printer, speakers, fax machine, external devices, and all that extra stuff? Turning all that off can help cut down on energy and make you a greener person.

3. Next time your shopping around for a Computer, try to find one you like that is energy efficient. The new DELL Studio Hybrid desktop is built with energy friendly everything, such as the new line of Intel processors that use less energy and provide more power.
